Should I focus on link building to improve SERPs?

Placing back-links on high-quality, relevant websites in your niche is still helpful. However many of us know incoming links has much less value and impact on SERPs than it used to be. In my experience, it is too time-consuming to focus heavily on link building and it brings limited return.

- A SEO company like CBI mostly needs quality content about your products/services, in the form of web copy, articles, blog posts, or reviews.
- We need a budget to buy good hosting, place quality links on relevant sites, and run short advertising campaign that support SEO.

Client question: It seems that our key word list is small. Therefore, I think we can make significant strides by focusing our efforts around a few, but I'm open to your thoughts?
Answer: Not really. They keyword list you have in mind can be small. The keyword list you should optimize your website for may be big or small. You'd need do to a keyword research to figure that out.

Should I expect short-term SEO result?

Client question: My budget is limited so I'm going to need to show results before I can spend more aggressively. I'd like us to set some short term goals (~3mos) so we can gauge how we are doing.
Answer: It makes sense that you think that way, as many people do. You can run short-term campaigns and measure results in email marketing, pay-per-click campaigns, or social media campaigns. However it is hard to do the same with SEO.

My opinion is No. Search Engine Optimization is a war. It is an on-going war between you and your web competitors (such as web giants Amazon, Zappos, JCPenney, etc) for the top 10 positions on Search Engine Result Pages for your niche.
